Athlete. Student. Climate Activist.

I am a 20-year-old student at Dartmouth College studying climate science, sustainable energy, and government. I have always had a love for the natural world that has facilitated a passion for endurance athletics. I hope to inspire climate awareness and energy justice through my studies and athletic endeavors. On August 28th I set out on my biggest adventure yet, the Pan-American bikepacking WR attempt.

  • During the fall term of 2023, I conducted independent research titled 'Measuring Bias in Facebook's Ad Delivery Algorithms: Greenwashing Ads and Climate Obstruction Efforts'.
Recently there has been enormous attention directed towards big oil greenwashing campaigns that aim to convince the public that oil corporations help the environment and advance climate change solutions. I examine delivery bias of ExxonMobil’s greenwashing ads and Greenpeace’s climate activism ads by Facebook’s ad delivery algorithms which exhibit independent and strongly biased differences in ad delivery between the U.S. and the U.K. Facebook’s ADS ad delivery algorithms target significantly different audiences between America and Europe and between climate obstruction and climate activism ads despite big oil and climate activism organizations selecting identical targeting between the two. Please refer to the attached poster to view the results.

  • Climate change is a challenging topic on which to alter opinions and behavior. People experience a type of “psychological distance” that influences everything from their perception of climate trends to their attitudes and behavioral intentions. Compounding this challenge, in the United States climate denialism has a strong motivational basis, with opinion reflecting a person’s political affiliation. Interpersonal communication is a promising vehicle for attitude change because it can be structured in a way that offers concrete information and does not provoke a defensive reaction. The proposed experiments will involve two forms of exchange that have proven effective in past research: perspective giving, in which a person expresses their views to a nonjudgmental listener and perspective taking, which entails hearing an alternative perspective. Working as an assistant to Dartmouth professor Jennifer Jerit we are investigating both approaches because we expect them to work differently depending on a person’s existing opinions on climate change.
