Day 34 - A Look At the Numbers and a Video

Bond is now on day #34 of his Pan Am Journey, and we thought it would be a good time to take a look at his mileage numbers as he chases the world record.  The world record is 84 days and 11 hours which is a pace of about 163 miles per day.

As of Day #33, Bond has completed 6,350 miles for a daily average of 192 miles per day.  The current Pan Am world record holder, Austrian Michael Strasser, after his Day #33 had completed 5,724 miles for an average of 173 miles per day.  This places Bond 626 miles ahead of Strasser at this point.  And at his current pace, Bond is on track to complete the Pan Am in just over 72 days which would be over 2 weeks ahead of the current record time.

Of course, it is still relatively early on.  Bond is only about 46% of the way to Ushuaia with about 8,500 miles ahead of him still.  Bond does anticipate his daily average to slow some when he gets to the much hillier terrain of the Andes.  And his pace could be slowed (or sped up!) by the direction of the inevitable winds of the southern Andes plains as he gets closer to the end.

We will periodically update these numbers along the way.

Also, Kevin Guthrie has been kind enough to continue updating Bond’s location so check it out here:

Thanks!
