Day 63 Update: Susques to General Güemes

165 miles

I didn’t sleep super well last night since I was up at 12,000ft. I felt a little sluggish getting started but enjoyed some rolling climbs out of town. I dropped into Salar Grande, a large salt flat, where I stopped for coffee and empanadas with a view. I pitched back up to 14,000ft before dropping way down. I’m now officially on the eastern side of the Andes. I crossed the Andes to escape the headwinds, so when I turned south out of the canyon at the base of the descent I was absolutely heartbroken to experience a 25mph direct headwind. I stopped in San Salvador de Jujuy for a supermarket and ATM when I realized I’ve managed to loose my debit card. Luckily I have a spare credit card with me, but it isn’t working at ATMs so I’ll be without cash for a while. Not happy with my progress today. The wind absolutely tore me apart and my legs felt awful. Early to bed.
